Overview of

We can disagree on a lot of things, but there’s one thing we can agree on—moving is the worst. Do you know what else can be the worst? Talking logistics with moving companies. It can get so confusing talking about weight limits, exact measurements, and scheduling. To dust off an old gem, ain’t nobody got time for that.

TrucksandBoxes is a moving brokerage company, so they do all the hard stuff for you. They hook you up with the best full-service moving company. They speak the moving language and handle all the negotiation and logistics for you.

Do you want to know the best part? They are the most affordable option on the market.

What to know about TrucksandBoxes

TrucksandBoxes operates as a moving broker. In a nutshell, TrucksandBoxes will find you deals in your area. The price is especially good for veterans (that’s where the name comes from).

It’s a family-owned and family-operated business, so you can feel good about helping a nice local business. Don’t worry about getting upsold to a more expensive moving company—that hasn’t been our experience.

The Quoting Process

As with all moving companies, your Trucks and Boxes experience largely depends on what moving service you get set up with. They offer local moves, long distance, full packing, partial packing, and even white glove handling for vip relocation services.

Their quoting process has 3 options. Over the phone, virtual estimates, or in home estimates for moves that are over 4 bedrooms. What we especially like about trucks and boxes is that their quotes are 100% price locked  and guaranteed to be non changing once you sign on their quote. This can save a lot of shippers from hassles and headaches on move day.  Of course, the agent did explain to us that if the shipper decides to add more furniture that was not covered in the quote and they need to reserve additional truck space, this does cause for the price to fluctuate.

After inventory is taken, the total volume is expressed in cubic feet and multiplied by a live rate. These rates are pulled from a standardized database.

A look at their pricing

We called Trucks and Boxes to get a gauge on what the pricing looks like. Below you can see a real quote provided by this company to get an idea of their low cost for long distance moving services.

Move facts Estimate
Distance of move 700 miles
Date of move February 2019
Move size 4-bedroom house
Price without packing and unpacking $4,915.12
Price with packing and unpacking $5,668.12

The strategy with TrucksandBoxes pricing is finding you the cheapest and simplest way to move your stuff.

That being said, don’t expect much in the way of frills. When you go with a budget option like TrucksandBoxes, you’ll get a budget experience. Your stuff will get from point A to point B, but you don’t get perks like accurate in-home estimates or better insurance options.

You can get a free quote online whenever you want, You’ll just need to provide the following information:

  • Number of bedrooms you’re moving
  • ZIP codes of where you are now
  • Weight estimate of your stuff
  • Date of when you’re moving

You don’t even need to know where you’re moving yet! Just put in that information and the machine will spit out a ballpark estimate.

This is where the hard part starts.

You’ll need to create a complete inventory of everything you’re moving. Once you’ve taken on that task, you’ll be ready to roll.

You can always call for TrucksandBoxes for a quick quote once you know where you’re headed. Enter your basic information here and you’ll get a call within 8 seconds. It’s sort of like when you watch the creepy videotape on The Ring, but much less scary.

Additional fees and services

Just so you’re aware, here are all the extra fees (so you can hopefully avoid them):

  • Long-carry fee: Make sure that the moving trucks can get as close to your front door as possible. If movers park over 75 feet away from the door, you’ll need to pay an extra $1 per foot.
  • Stairs fee: How many steps do you climb to get to your apartment? If it’s over ten steps, you’ll need to pay $50 per day.
  • Bulky items: Movers will tack on extra fees for bulky, hard-to-pack items. Owners of bean-bag chairs and pianos, beware.
  • Item insurance: Your move comes guaranteed with basic insurance that covers $0.06 per pound. If you’re worried about anything breaking, you can choose full-value insurance that fully covers any items damaged or lost

30 days of free storage

Tell us if you’ve been in this situation. You have to move out of your place, but there’s a bit of time before you can move into your new place. What in the world are you supposed to do with your stuff in the meantime? Thanks to 30 days of free storage, you can crash on your friend’s couch knowing your stuff is safely tucked away.

The catch is that you can only use the free storage if TrucksandBoxes has space available. Make sure to call ahead if you’re banking on using the free storage.

Help me with my furniture, please!

Arguably, the worst part of the moving process is disassembling and reassembling all your furniture. (Let’s be honest, you probably lost the little IKEA tools to set up your desk anyway.) You can let the TrucksandBoxes peeps (or whoever they set you up with) take care of all that. It will cost you more, of course, but it’s awesome to know you don’t really need to lift a finger.

TrucksandBoxes moving experience

TrucksandBoxes should set you up with a fairly comfortable experience. Make sure you ask all your questions when you get your quote so as to avoid any surprises on moving day.

Some folks have had bad experiences where things got confused between TrucksandBoxes and the moving company they brokered. It ended up with too small of a truck and then a $3,000 upsell. No thank you.

Move-in day

Expect very good treatment on move-in day. Your movers should be professionals that don’t ding walls or get carpets all nasty. Your stuff will get safely tucked away in the truck and be on its merry way.

Recap: TrucksandBoxes makes a lot of sense if you’re a veteran

TrucksandBoxes doesn’t stand out in a big way from other moving companies—unless you’re a veteran. If you are a veteran, and you need to move, you should stop reading this and call TrucksandBoxes right away. With the veteran discount and quality service, you’ll get the best deal.

For everyone else who hasn’t served in the military, you’ll probably be better off going with another moving company. From finding the best long-distance mover or someone for a shorter, local move, we’ve got you covered!
